The following procedures are a more seamless, transparent process.  The Virginia Auctioneers Association Hall of Fame nomination and voting procedures will go into effect for the 2026 induction.

  1. The nominees should be members of VAA or someone who has made a major contribution to VAA.
  2. Only members of VAA can nominate individuals for this award, and they must use the forms established and approved by the VAA Hall of Fame Committee.
  3. The deadline for nominations should be September 1st of the current year or the following business day, should September 1st fall on a weekend that year.
  4. Nominations must be in writing, signed, and mailed to the Hall of Fame Committee at the Virginia Auctioneers Association’s principal place of business.
  5. Once nominations are closed, all HOF members will receive the annual ballot and information on each candidate in a mailed packet.
  6. Each HOF member shall cast their annual vote by October 15th of the current year or the following business day, should October 15th fall on a weekend that year.
  7. The criteria that will be considered in selecting the winner are
    1. Success and leadership in the nominee’s chosen auction field.
    2. Special considerations, e.g., an unusual impact benefiting the auction profession.
    3. Adherence to the Auctioneer Code of Ethics.
    4. Dedicated support of VAA and the local community.
  8. Introduction into the Hall of Fame shall take place at the VAA annual conference.
  9. Those candidates not selected will be kept on file for five (5) years and will be re-nominated each of these years.  After five (5) years, said applications will be null and void.

The procedures for nomination are as follows:

  1. Nominations will be sent to the Committee via VAA’s Executive Director.  Nominations are to be submitted on approved forms, no exceptions.
  2. The Hall of Fame Chairperson/Executive Director is responsible for mailing all nominations to voting members for their consideration.
  3. The Hall of Fame members will vote on the nominations by ballot.
  4. The nominee selected will be announced at the VAA annual conference.
  5. The Executive Director or Hall of Fame Chairperson shall:
    1. Notify a member of the elected nominee’s family to assure the elected nominee will attend the conference.
    2. Purchase the appropriate award to honor the new Hall of Fame members.
    3. Publish the award in the post-conference mailer with a brief synopsis and photo of the new inductees.
    4. Assist in preparing a news release for the new inductee(s) to send to their local media.
    5. Maintain a list of all members of the Hall of Fame
  6. The Hall of Fame Committee shall choose who the presenter of the HOF award shall be on an annual basis.
